Calling all prayer warriors!

Ella's 4th open heart surgery that was originally scheduled for June 13th has just been rescheduled for this Wednesday June 5th.

We are heading out for Dallas first thing in the morning. Once we arrive we will go straight to the hospital for 4-6 hours of pre op testing (including blood draws). It will be a very long day. Once we finish we will go to the Ronald McDonald House to stay the night and super early Wednesday morning we will head back to the hospital for her surgery.

Our stay could be weeks or months, we really don't know what to expect, only that she is having major open heart surgery and is extra high risk due to her current complications. We are emotional and scared. We NEED your prayers to get through this season, it will be the hardest of all the surgeries on all 3 of us. Please pray for  peace, strength, wisdom, health, safety, clarity of mind, pray for her surgeons and nurses, please just pray for a complete hedge of protection around Ella!

As always we know that God is in control and we find comfort in that. Please pray for His will to be accomplished through this season in our lives.

Please share Ella's blog and ask your friends and family members to be praying for our sunshine. We believe in the power of prayer!

Also, please no visitors at the hospital due to danger of her getting sick. Thank you all for understanding.

  1. Amy, I have never commented before. I found your blog through others, I started to follow Bowens Heart and then Krista's Reflections, and that is where I found your blog. I just want you to know that I have been praying for all of you and I will definitely continue to pray. You and your husband are amazing parents. God knew what he was doing when he gave Ella to you. Praying for all 3 of you .... God bless you. Proverbs 3:5,6 Jeremiah 29:11 Philippians 4:13 Aleisha from Ohio

  8. Hi, Amy. My name is Jordan and I started reading your blog through a friend. Your story hits home for me. Six years ago, my husband and I gave birth to a baby girl, Maura, with only 5% of her small intestine. I was 20 at the time, my husband 22. The fear of the unknown when your child has a rare medical condition is something not many can relate to, so when I read some of your early posts, it was like I wrote them myself. Maura has specialists in Nebraska. We actually ended up moving to NE from OK in August to be near the doctors. She should have had a transplant, but she was put in an intestinal rehab program. She gets tube feeds and gets IV fluid every night. We have to watch her around germs, especially gut viruses (the immune system is in the small bowel and she doesn't have hardly any). They call her care "pioneer" because it's so new(you know how comforting that sounds). Sometimes this life can be isolating, but it's worth it to spend all that precious time with your baby. I will be lifting you, your husband, and your most beloved treasure, Ella, up on Wednesday. May the peace of God be with you. Feel free to email me if you ever want to: jordanmccabe28@yahoo.com

  9. I have followed since before Ella was born and I just found out that you go to church with my best friend (Emily Carpenter). It's amazing to me how often I find myself thinking of Ella and wondering how a certain appointment has went, etc. She has been amazing thus far and I know she will continue to shine. My prayers are with you all during this scary time.

  13. Oh, Amy and Jon,

We think about you three all of the time. You are always on our hearts and minds. We love little Ella from afar. We will be praying that it would please the Lord to heal little Ella's heart through this surgery. I pray that you have many. many more years with her. I so look forward to the New Heaven and the New Earth where all of this bad stuff will be gone. What a glorious day that will be!

  16. Maybe it is best that you did not have to wait any longer because waiting is terrifying in itself. Prayers are with all of you, including her medical team. We will be anxiously waiting to hear how wonderfully she did during surgery. All of us out here in the land of hope and peace will pray very hard tonight when we lay our heads down to sleep. We will wake up to a new day and a new day of prayer for sweet Ella.
